I am scattered
Across many bodies
And many minds
Pieces of me locked away
In the hearts of people I know
And the memories of those forgotten
I treasure the gifts
Folks leave me
The passions and hopes
They trust me with
Every hobby and joy is not mine
But ours
The music collection I keep
And listen to in the dead of night
Comes from a friend
Who enthusiastically explained
Just what it all meant
And what it all felt like
The favourite show of a girl
Who i no longer talk to
Plays in my darkest hours
To end the silence that hangs over me
A comforting remedy
A comforting memory
Horror movies in the basement
With the older members
Of my rugby team
Their excited screams
And tearful laughs
Are traits I still hold dear
I am just the rebuilt memory
Of everyone I’ve known
And everyone I’ve passed
I am a vessel
For the best parts of them
To thrive in
When you’re born
As nothing more
Than an empty body
The love and care
That others hold
Fill your soul
I come to you
a blank canvas
Waiting for colour
So share you passions
And add to my abstract
So i many cherish your memory
Nothing is truly mine
For i am nothing more
Than a collection of memories
Of people past and present
And as i grow old
I have only one wish
I hope others love what I share
For I know when we’re gone
Our bodies hidden under dirt
I will not be glorified
Or celebrated
I will only live on
In the love I shared
